Monday – First Day in Beijing

Poets in Beijing

Poets in Beijing

Seventeen Whittier College students are traveling through China this Jan Term with Professor of Business Administration Jeff Decker and business leader Edwin Keh ’79, who was a recent lecturer at the Wharton School of Business.

Edwin Keh ’79 reports: The group arrived Saturday night and spent Sunday on a lightning tour of Beijing.  They manage to cover all the major sites.

Monday we started on campus at Tsinghua University.  Professor David Robb, the author of the Walmart China case we were studying, hosted our visit and led the class in a discussion of the case and about business in China.

We then went to Lenovo and got to tour both their offices as well as one of their computer manufacturing plants.  We then got a tour of one of the most energy efficient Walmart stores in the world, and got to see how different Walmart stores looks in China.

We ended the day at the Business School of Peking University.  The Dean of the business school, Professor John Yang hosted us along with a group of international MBA students.

Professor Decker led our students and these world class MBAs in a great discussion on Walmart China.  Our students held their own and outshine their Peking counterparts.  Go Poets!
